A Rich History of Automotive Innovation

Like our dealership, Chevy trucks didn’t appear out of thin air. Years of hard work allowed Chevy to become a household name, but that’s not to say that its past wasn’t incredibly influential to the industry. When people think about Chevy trucks in the modern age, a name that springs to mind is the venerable Silverado. However, the older generation will fondly remember the C/K line of pickup trucks, which not only served as the precursor to the modern-day Silverado line, but its time on the market stretched from the early 1960s through the turn of the new millennium. Chevy’s history goes much further than this, evident with its foundation in 1911, well over a century ago. Founders William C. Durant and the Chevrolet brothers, Arthur and Louis, whom the company earned its namesake, began the company in the Motor City of Detroit, MI.

Being founded in 1911 doesn’t tell us how long Chevy’s pickup trucks have been in the market. For that, we must look at the One-Ton—recognized as Chevy’s first-ever foray into pickup trucks. The One-Ton ran off a 3.67-liter engine generating a then-impressive 36 hp and started at $1,325. In modern times, this equates to over $25,000. Of course, the One-Ton wasn’t for the average consumer, and this was for two reasons. First, the American economy began trending downwards post World War I, which coincidentally was the year the titular One-Ton hit the market.

Secondly, there weren’t many Americans driving at this moment in time, especially in the lower and middle working class. Twenty years later, however, the dynamic had shifted with the release of the Half-Ton. Vehicles, especially pickup trucks, were picking up steam in Chevy’s production plants with a vast sea of advancements, such as rubber tires. Perhaps most importantly, however, there were more Americans on the road, and this number steadily grew and continues to this day.

While many drivers on the road today have likely never seen one of these legendary pickup trucks, they undoubtedly laid the foundation for every truck that followed, whether from Chevy or otherwise. However, when you have an ingenious product, you build upon it, and the DNA of the One-Ton and Half-Ton translated into the C/K line, which then evolved into the beloved Silverado, which now serves as the second-best-selling vehicle in America.

A Variety of Work-Ready Trucks

Shoppers looking for a work truck have some excellent options within Chevy’s lineup, but no other truck holds a candle to the Silverado HD line. Featuring the Silverado 2500 and 3500, these heavy-duty trucks are for the toughest of tasks on the worksite. A tremendous amount of power, courtesy of V8 engines, is what you can expect with the Silverado HD line, whether gasoline or diesel-powered. With a diesel engine, your Silverado HD can produce up to 910 lb-ft of torque with models released in 2017 and after.

As expected, the 3500 outperforms the 2500, but that doesn’t mean the latter isn’t impressive, which it certainly is, with up to 18,510 lbs of towing on various Silverado 2500 models. With the Silverado 3500, the maximum towing capacity is higher. Should you opt for the 3500, you can achieve up to 36,000 lbs of towing on models such as the 2021 and 2022 variants. Of course, the Silverado HD line is capable in more ways than raw performance. For example, Silverado HD trucks offer a respectable amount of bed space, which includes up to 83.5 cu.ft. of available cargo space, in addition to the aforementioned towing capacity that outpaces most of its competition.

Leave the Pavement Behind in the Silverado ZR2

If off-roading is more your thing, the Silverado ZR2 is perfect for your excursions off the pavement. For the best off-roading experience, the Silverado ZR2 is the pinnacle of off-road durability within Chevy’s lineup. The ZR2 includes all the amenities you’d hope to find on an off-roading behemoth. Custom dampeners are present with springs tuned for off-roading to reduce the vibration of your vehicle when traveling the trail, allowing for greater flexibility with the sheer randomized nature of off-roading.

A four-wheel drive system is also available, along with a crucially necessary front and rear locking differential, and the tire size adds up to a whopping 33-inches. Necessary precautions are in place to prevent damage to the undercarriage of your truck, such as skid plates and those 33-inch tires that will help elevate the vehicle significantly on the trail. The base Silverado 1500 allows for lighter off-roading tasks, but if you’re serious about intense off-roading, the ZR2 is an excellent option.

An Array of Luxury Features

A truck is undoubtedly only as capable as the powertrain it runs on, but that doesn’t mean luxury isn’t an option. The Silverado HD pickup trucks are a prime example of when style and substance collide into something magnificent. The Silverado HD is the priciest truck in the lineup, and with it comes some expectations of luxury. Fortunately for those who invest in one, the expectations more than pay off. Luxury doesn’t always have to be indicative of comfort either—it could be an additional performance feature or advanced technology, like those found on infotainment screens. These infotainment screens are feature-rich, going back years with the Chevy MyLink audio system. For a more premium audio experience, many Silverado HD models allow for replacing the base six-speaker setup with a stunning set of Bose speakers that surround the cabin with crisp sound.

The Silverado HD sees its fair share of advancements, including available Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in models made in 2021 and later. An EZ Lift tailgate is also implemented into these models, allowing for effortless access to your truck bed, making it quite useful when your hands are full. Older models, such as the 2018 Silverado HD, offer a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot and features such as a Wireless Charging Pad on various trim levels. Luxurious amenities you may expect from costly vehicles are offered, including genuine leather seating.
